An opportunity to explore the versatile art of silkscreen printing in depth.
On this course you will learn new skills and a professional approach to your work.
Guided by your very experienced tutor this course is suitable for all levels from beginners to the accomplished artist. Numbers are kept small (four per class) to allow for individual attention. You will get the chance to develop your ideas in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Inkspot Press and still have time to soak up some of the creative atmosphere and culinary joys that make Brighton such an inspiring place to visit.
Starting with the basics you will be shown how to coat, expose and make photographic stencils and then progress to making more complex designs. You will learn the skills of registration and making colour separations to print in layers. There will be time for you to develop your own ideas through the process.
Your tutor will help you to explore ways to produce the positives that are used to make successful photographic stencils that will suit your individual work. These will include hand cut, hand painted ‘old school’ techniques as well as digital ones. If you work digitally its a good idea to bring your laptop and a memory stick.
Since screen printing is such a versatile technique this course will appeal to artists from many different disciplines, photography, graphics, illustration and textiles as well as enthusiastic amateurs.
All materials such as inks, stencil emulsion, tape etc. are provided, together with some basic proofing papers. Inexpensive and specialist papers and larger format digital printouts will be charged separately.
The workshop is well equipped to show you how to work at a professional level and advice will be given about continuing on your own. The studio also functions on an open access basis so those who have attended courses often come back to use the studio independently afterwards. Materials and simple table top equipment will be available into buy in our shop should you wish to invest for the future and work at home, or in your own studio!
