Polymetaal Press

The Polymetaal Press is a very modern piece of equipment. It has a platten size of 100cm x 80cm which means large work can be printed with considerable ease.

This is a highly professional press for printing lino- and woodcuts. The upper-platen is moved vertically by a hydraulic cylinder.

These presses do resemble  the old hand presses (Columbian, Albion, Washington, etc.). In fact technically there are many similarities. The major difference however is that a hydraulic system applies force to the platen. (55000 lbs of pressure)

The old presses were all equipped with ingenious lever systems in order to use human strength as efficiently as possible. This modern platen press is equipped with a hydraulic system which makes it possible to apply forces that were never possible with hand presses.

The olds presses were limited in size because of the limitations of the technical systems in those days. It took alot of strength for the printer to print a full size sheet of paper.

With this Polymetaal press the printer can simply place the work on the tray, slide onto the bed and press the button .
