All the fun of New Blood Print Club, dealing with specific areas of screen printing
With the continued success of New Blood Print Club, we are pleased to offer Print School, which concentrates on specific aspects of printing. This is an opportunity to learn new skills and take a product home with you that same day. It’s a very busy day, and incredibly rewarding.
Sunday 2nd June 2013
11am - 5pm
Over the six hours you will learn how to create a single colour screenprint (or colour blend)
Everything is included in the cost of the course including a few tea-towels & tote bags to get your started.
You will be able to buy more tea towels and tote bag blanks at Inkspot Press on the day, or feel free to source your own.
On the day, you will take your image (either hand-drawn, a photograph or graphic design) and set it up on a screen for printing.
You will learn to mix your own ink colours and, with all the guidance you need, print a fresh batch of tea-towels and/or tote-bags.
This course is perfect for those who want to print their own designs and messages on tea-towels and tote bags for experimentation, as a small print run or as gifts for sale.
We ask that you email your image in advance to info@inkspotpress.co.uk so you can get the best out of the day. Please indicate which course you are doing and we will help you to prepare your transparency prior to the day.

This course is suitable for beginners and the more experienced who want to brush up on their skills, as well as those who want to use the workshop on an open access basis afterwards.
Individuals are encouraged to explore their own ideas for creating images, making use of various approaches available such as paper stencil, digital print-outs, cut black paper and hand drawn stencils. It is possible to work with photographic imagery, hard edged graphic designs, painted marks, drawn marks, scanned drawings, and more.
The tutor advises on methods most suitable for individual work. During the course the experience gained will lead students to explore their own preferred methods for creating images in screenprinting.
Students are clearly guided step-by-step in how to use the facilities in the workshop at the Ink Spot Press. The majority of studio time is spent preparing stencils and working hands-on creating prints with specialist equipment. During the course it will be possible to create a number of different printed images. The tutor will tailor learning opportunities to each individuals interests within this diverse printmaking area.
Participants can expect to:
• Learn how to produce colourful interesting images from their own designs
• Experience many different, exciting stencil making techniques such as paper stencil, photographic stencils and hand painted stencils.
• Understanding which stencil making techniques are suitable for different effects/textures/images
• Gain confidence in setting up the screen, using the squeegee and hands-on experience of the studio’s screen printing equipment
• Learn about the possibilities available through colour mixing, use of transparency and the overlaying of transparent or opaque layers.
• Learn how to register multiple colour layers to create your design.
All materials are provided apart from paper and digital printouts.

new course that explores some of the possibilities of working from home for fun and/or profit.
Hand made products make wonderful gifts for friends and family.
But they can also be the start of a small online business on Etsy or Folksy.
Its possible to change your life by being hands on and creative.
This course will show you the basics.
How to make screens using photo stencils. How to make succesful positives by hand and on the computer
How to utilise the fantastic mark making, graphic possibilities of this most versatile of stencilling processes.
How to print and register colour layers
and moreover how to have fun while doing it, tea and cakes all round.
Most materials will be provided and are included in the course fee, with extras available to buy at reasonable rates from our shop.
We also sell screens, squeegees and hinge clamps and offer a photo screen stencil making service should you want to put new designs on
your screens and carry on printing from home.

This course covers preparing positives by hand and digitally, making the photostencil and producing a multicoloured, multilayered print or series of experimental prints to demonstrate the versatility of this fantastic process. It will also introduce you to the workshop and its facilities in a very practical and enjoyable way. Numbers are kept very small so that you can have as much individual attention as possible.
Each participant has access to a professional vacuum bed throughout (no sharing, you can get more done and keep things in register) We teach you how to do it properly, using professional equipment.
A weekend allows you to explore the process in more depth than on a one day taster.
Suitable for a beginner who wants to gain understanding of the screenprinting process and what it has to offer, but also a seasoned pro who is a bit rusty and would like a refresher.
All screen preparation and basic materials are included except for specialist papers and large digital printouts.
If you get the bug (be warned its addictive!) materials and equipment are available in our shop for participants to buy and take away with them including tabletop screen clamps inks and mediums.

Whether you’re an illustrator, graphic designer or photographer (or a bit of all three),
the method of screenprinting mixes these mediums, with interesting results.
Experiment with colour and composition. Bring interesting paper. Get creative.
They are very small classes in a friendly space.
VERY IMPORTANT PREP BEFORE THE DAY: Feel free to email us at

up in advance.
The main delay for printing is prepping your transparencies, so please sort this in
advance and your day will run much more smoothly and you can spend more time on your
print action :)
Here’s some things to remember when prepping your image:
The screen can take up to a two colour print, so either two A3 size layers OR one big
A2 monoprint.
Please note: we can print up to A3 transparencies in Ink Spot - any bigger and we will have to use the frindly services in B5 Enterprise Point where there is a large format printer, We need advance warning for this and files will have to be sent in advance. Please note there will be an extra charge, for large positives for prices see www.inkspotpress.co.uk/services
Digital images should be saved as high contrast and sent in greyscale, not as CMYK or RGB files
—Linework should be more than 0.5 thickness.
—If you are working from a photograph, you will need to bitmap or halftone your
image in photoshop:
diffusion dither at 160dpi
or halftone at 60-80 lpi

This course is suitable for beginners or more experienced artists who want to brush up on their skills, as well as those who would like to use the workshop on an open access basis afterwards.
The course will cover both traditional hand techniques in combination with digital technology, low tech and hi-tech. Using paper stencils, hand drawn imagery, hand painted stencils and digital print outs, the course wil concentrate on using photostencils and include working on the computer to produce suitable positives.
Participants can bring imagery in any form, either to be scanned and manipulated on the computer, or digital files on a memory stick. The studio has wifi and broadband so it is possible to download imagery from the web and participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops to work on if they have them. Numbers are kept small so that individual requirements can be catered for.
A chance to get more intensely involved in developing your own style while learning new skills. The course includes all materials apart from specialist papers and large format digital printouts. There is an opportunity to buy materials and equipment from our shop to take away with you if you get the bug!.
Jane Sampson is well known as a teacher and artist /printmaker. With a teaching and exhibiting track record of 25 years plus, she has a wealth of experience in both fine art and commercial printmaking to communicate and share.

On this course you will learn new skills and a professional approach to your work.
Guided by your very experienced tutor this course is suitable for all levels of experience since numbers are kept very small
to allow for individual attention. You will get the chance to develop your ideas in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Inkspot Press
and still have time to soak up some of the creative atmosphere and culinary joys that make Brighton such a fantastic and inspiring
place to visit.
Starting with the basics you will be shown how to coat, expose and make photographic stencils and then progress to making
more complex designs. You will learn the skills of registration and making colour separations to print in layers. There will be time for you to
work on and develop your own ideas through the process. Your tutor will help you to explore ways to produce the positives used
to expose successful stencils that will suit your work. These will include hand cut, hand painted old school techniques as well as
digital ones. If you work digitally its a good idea to bring your laptop and a memory stick.
Since screenprinting is such a versatile technique this course will appeal to artists from many different disciplines, photography, graphics,
illustration and textiles as well as enthusiastic amateurs. Materials will be provided and covered by the course fee however some expensive
specialist papers and larger format digital printouts will be charged separately.
The workshop is well equipped to show you how to work to a professional level and advice will be given about continuing to practice
on your own. Materials and simple table top equipment will be available into buy in our shop should you wish to invest for the future!
More about Jane
Jane is an artist and printmaker with a special interest in screenprinting and photographic imaging. Her unique style incorporates paint and pigment, collage and textiles. Her passion for printmaking is apparent in her practice and she promotes the use of printmaking as a graphic art form without boundaries.
She exhibits regularly and currently shows at Bellis Gallery, Brighton and with Liberty Gallery at art fairs all over the UK. She has recently shown work in the Netherlands and in Dubai.With a background in fine art, art history and commercial printing she is well known as a knowledgeable and inspiring teacher. She has been passing on skills for over 25 years as a visiting lecturer in art schools all over South East England. Currently she works part time at Brighton University and teaches the occasional short course at Westdean College (the Edward James Foundation).
